In order to fully express their love and gratitude to their family and friends, Wayne and Traci have planned a four day event surrounding their wedding. In addition to the ceremony itself, guests are invited to join the couple for the entire weekend from Thursday, May 29 through Sunday June, 1.
The celebration begins on Thursday afternoon at Van Buren State Park in South Haven, Michigan. A barbeque will be provided Thursday evening, and there will be lots of time for people to visit and have fun. Campsites may be reserved by visiting the online registration site for the park. (Choose Van Buren State Park from the drop down menu. The following map may be helpful in choosing a campsite. The wedding party will be at sites 30 - 33.) As this park is on Lake Michigan, it will probably be cool at night. Guests are encouraged to wear layered clothing for comfort, and to bring something warm both for outer wear and for sleeping. Visitors who prefer not to camp may choose from a number of local accomodations. The closest hotel to the campground is the Budget Lodge, only four miles from the campground. It's a nice, clean little place, and right next door is CT's Family Restaurant. They are very friendly, and have good cheap food.
On Friday, guests may hike on the dunes and the beach at the park, or go into town for sight seeing. Friday evening the wedding party will be at the rehearsal for several hours, so it would be a great time for other guests to enjoy some of South Haven's local charm. The couple can vouch for the pizza at Amicarelli's Vinyard, and no one should be allowed to leave South Haven without a trip to Sherman's Ice Cream! They have tons of flavors. If you're a chocolate fan, try the Chocomania, it's a rich, dark chocolate that lives up to the hype.
Saturday at noon is the wedding ceremony at Saint Tom's in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The wedding party will be in renaissance dress. Guests are invited to dress in renaissance, medieval, or faire garb as well if they so desire. One online source for faire garb is By The Sword. Following the ceremony, the reception will be held at the Parkview Hills clubhouse! This will be lots of fun for everyone with plenty of food, drink and games. The wedding cake is from MacKenzie's Bakery. They are a really wonderful business, and if anyone locally is looking for a specialty bakery they have wonderful customer service and are highly recommended. They may be reached at (269) 343-8440. There will also be the aforementioned Sherman's Ice Cream! Sandwiches and other light fare will be provided. Raise a glass of Chaucer's Mead or a pint of Boddington's to toast the happy couple!
Sunday morning, early risers are encouraged to join the couple on the beach at Van Buren State Park for a sunrise prayer service. Following the readings and reflection led by Pastor Sue from the United Methodist Church in Kendall, Michigan, there will be pastries for breakfast. After breaking camp, the couple will depart for their honeymoon.
